Derivatives of Constant Functions

Example:
z = sqrt(2)

To take the derivative of this function we notice that it is a constant, because it doesn't change as the independent variable changes (z = sqrt(2) no matter what the variable is).

The Derivative of a Constant Function:

The derivative of any constant function is zero.
If
  z = c
then the derivative of z is
  z ' = 0

So our example,

z = sqrt(2)
Must have as its derivative
z ' = 0
